Francis Buchholz on Scorpions’ hit single ‘Wind of Change:
“When we had recorded it, you know, the record company called me and said: ‘Can we change ‘Wind of Change’? Can we take out the whistling? It’s not rock n’ roll in that for us in America, you know. Can you put in some guitar?’ So I went to Klaus (Meine) and said: ‘Klaus listen, can we get rid of the whistling?’ I didn’t like… I wasn’t so much a friend of it anyway. I was discussing it with him and he got very angry so the whistling stayed in and it became a huge hit in Europe but it didn’t get that much airplay in America.”

Message from Klaus Meine

Dear Fans,

It really touched my heart in a big way…I ‘d like to say “thank you” to each and every one of you for your love and support over so many years…We are in the studio right now, but it won’t be long before we hit the road again…
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you some where out there…

JACK RUSSELL, DON DOKKEN, TONY MARTIN To Guest On HERMAN RAREBELL’s ‘Acoustic Fever’

Former SCORPIONS drummer Herman Rarebell will release a new album, “Acoustic Fever”, at the end of June. The CD contains all-acoustic versions of 12 SCORPIONS songs Herman co-wrote while in the band.

“Acoustic Fever” features Rarebell on drums alongside Robby Lochner (Rob Halford’s FIGHT, Cherie Currie, Eddie Money, GREAT WHITE FEATURING JACK RUSSELL) on steel string guitars, Dario Seixas (FIREHOUSE, STEPHEN PEARCY, CROWN OF THORNS, GREAT WHITE FEATURING JACK RUSSELL) on bass, José Antonio Rodríguez (Alejandro Sanz, Marc Anthony) on flamenco guitar and Corey Whitehead on flamenco guitar. Each song features a different singer, including Bobby Kimball (TOTO), John Parr (“St. Elmo’s Fire”), Alex Ligertwood (SANTANA), Jack Russell (GREAT WHITE), Tony Martin (BLACK SABBATH), Michael Voss (Michael Schenker), Gary Barden (MSG) and Johnny Gioeli (HARDLINE).

In a recent interview with Metal-Rules.com, Rarebell stated about “Acoustic Fever”: “On this album, I’m playing all my classic songs I wrote for the SCORPIONS. For example, ‘Passion Rules The Game’, which will be sung by John Parr. You remember John Parr ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’? Then I have Bobby Kimball from TOTO singing ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’. I have Tony Martin from BLACK SABBATH singing ‘Another Piece of Meat’, I got Jack Russell from GREAT WHITE singing ‘Don’t Make No Promises (Your Body Can’t Keep)’. He’s a killer singer. And then I have Vossy, Michael Voss, who sings ‘Loving You Sunday Morning’. I have Don Dokken singing ‘You Give Me All I Need’, I have Gary Barden singing ‘Falling In Love’ and I have Paul Shortino. He sings the song ‘Love Is Blind’, which I wrote many years ago. I also got Alex Ligertwood from SANTANA, he sings ‘Is There Anybody There’, and I also have Johnny Gioeli, who sings with Axel Rudi Pell, he is singing ‘Dynamite’. So, I have really some really killer singers on this album and I’m very proud that they all said yes to me. Robby Lochner from GREAT WHITE played guitar on the album. And I must say all those guys and also Dario Seixas, the bass player from GREAT WHITE, were great. They have done a fantastic job, all of those boys.”

Rarebell will support “Acoustic Fever” with a European tour beginning in November, with U.S. dates to follow in 2014. The drummer’s touring band will feature three or four lead singers.

message from Paul Gagne: Plays Rudy Schenker part in the band

The production details: It was filmed during a show we did last summer. A TV crew happened to be there to film images that were shown to the audience on giant screens each side of the stage and to most of the the crowd standing behind the F.O.H./Lights shelter. After the show, they gave us a DVD of what was filmed, but without sound on it. However, we recorded the audio with our Tascam X-48, 48-track digital recorder, so we could do something with that.

We were lucky to get those images because we never had the money to rent cameras and hire a video team to shoot a show in the last 18 years. A friend of ours made us the shortest video containing the maximum of “Scorpions” potential and the results are pretty good. That’s very short, but imagine 90-120 minutes of it.

Steeve, our drummer, who’s a studio engineer in real life, edited, mixed, processed and enhanced the multitrack sound recording we had with Digital Performer, and “mated” that with the video. It was a fucking job to do since we had no timecode to sync the audio with video.

A Message from the Scorpions about Storm Thorgerson passing

We are saddened by the news of the passing of Storm Thorgerson, our graphic cover designer for the Albums “Lovedrive” and “Animal Magnetism”. He was truly a genius artist and we remember every time he came over to the Dierks Studios in Cologne to show us a selection of his brilliant work. It was always a lot of fun, we loved his British humour …
You can tell, when you take a look at “Animal Magnetism”.
He shot the cover for Lovedrive in the back of a Rolls Royce owned by Elton John at that time. It became a classic and one of the most favourite album covers for Scorpions and Fans around the world.

Our hearts go out to his family at this very said time.

RIP Storm.

BraveWords’ Martin Popoff Releases New Scorpions Book titled ‘Top Of The Bill’

http://www.bravewords.com/news/

BraveWords’ Martin Popoff has just issued his new book SCORPIONS: Top Of The Bill which will be available soon at Martinpopoff.com.

A description reads as follows:
“Blackout At The Zoo!
No question that Scorpions, Germany’s loudest and proudest rock band ever, have done much for heavy metal over the years, and it’s high time a book on them hit the shelves. Well, the wait is over with the arrival of Scorpions: Top Of The Bill, which looks at every song on every album the Teutonic tone-masters ever crafted, beginning with Lonesome Crow back in ‘72 through to the band’s triumphant “retirement” album Sting In The Tail (and beyond into Comeblack – long story!).

‘Speedy’s Coming’, ‘Dark Lady’, ‘Catch Your Train’, ‘Virgin Killer’, ‘Another Piece Of Meat’, ‘Animal Magnetism’, ‘Lovedrive’, ‘Holiday’, ‘The Zoo’, ‘Blackout’, ‘No One Like You’, ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’, ‘Still Loving You’, ‘Wind Of Change’… these are hits and deep album tracks built into the very fabric of heavy metal, and the stories of their making are all here.

Come join Martin as he embarks on conversation and analysis with all of the principals and beyond, including Klaus Meine, Uli Jon Roth, Herman Rarebell, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, along with the likes of Ralph Rieckermann, Francis Buchholz and legendary manager David Krebs.”
